What are the complications related to the surgery?
Gastric Bypass (open or laparoscopic) should be considered a major operation with many possible complications. Every precaution is taken during the surgical process in order to help to decrease the incidence of these, but they cannot be eliminated.


Early Complications Following Surgery (Perioperative):
Death (0.5-1.5%) Pneumonia
Abdominal Infection Heart Attack
Leak from Bowel Wound Infection
Spleen Injury Bowel Obstruction
Bleeding Anastomotic Narrowing
Pulmonary Embolus (Blood Clot)

Late Complications:
Wound (Incisional) Hernia Weight Gain
Staple line Breakdown Nutritional Problems
Bowel Obstruction Ulcer at Anastomosis
